Singing in a chorus appears to make you healthier, the Boston Globe says in this brief. Researchers aren’t really sure if it’s the communal effort or the singing itself that keeps spirits up. But they’ve noted that singers have lower depression, higher morale and suffer fewer falls, then the general pop.

“If a person is actively involved in an arts program, especially with other people, that’s doing very good things for health,” says Dr. Gene Cohen, a psychiatrist and director of the Center on Aging, Health and Humanities at George Washington University.
