Barack Obama really is the Antichrist, at least according to a heckler last night during the president’s fundraiser in Los Angeles.

“Jesus Christ is still God!” shouted David Serrano before security dragged him off. “You are the Antichrist!”

The president smiled and agreed with the first part, though he issued no formal denial of the second charge. Hmmm….

Matthew Avery Sutton, author of an op-ed in The New York Times on Sunday, “Why the Antichrist Matters in Politics,” that some found less than convincing, may be doing a happy dance.

Obama’s “fiery” speech to the Congressional Black Caucus on Sunday (he held up the Old Testament story of Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego as an example of his commitment) continues to draw criticism from some African-Americans as well as appreciation for the religious language.

Sex is also a hot religion topic of late.

It turns out evangelical singles are abstaining from abstinence about as much as everyone else, and the flagship evangelical magazine, Christianity Today, notes a poll showing most pastors would marry cohabiting couples and surveys a group of others to see if they agree.

And the “fertility gap” between the wealthy and the poor is turning into a chasm.

The death penalty debate that has flared in the United States recently seems to have little resonance in Iran, where religious freedom advocates are warning that a Christian pastor is facing execution for apostasy for refusing to recant his Christian faith.

There are charges of a cover-up in a case of the sexual abuse of a child under the care of a Catholic agency, but this time it’s not about abusive priests or dissembling prelates.

A. 85-year-old priest in Canada got in trouble with his bishop, however, for a fire-and-brimstone sermon about the evils of abortion and homosexuality, and saying that watching a gay pride parade was akin to applauding while the Twin Towers collapse on 9/11.

A spokesman for Bishop Valéry Vienneau of the Diocese of Bathurst, said the Rev. Donat Gionet‘s teachings don’t meet the diocese’s goal of following Christ’s example of loving unconditionally.

And the Vatican is dismissing reports that Pope Benedict XVI will be stepping aside when he turns 85 next year.

In Utah, some Jews prefer Republican candidate Jon Huntsman‘s “Jack Mormonism” to Mitt Romney‘s more devout version. But that’s not likely to swing the race to Huntsman in the Mormon heartland or anywhere else – in fact, Huntsman’s poll number are so low that he may not qualify for the next GOP debate.

An evangelical wife goes public with her effort to live out “biblical womanhood,” and her name is neither Michele Bachmann nor Sarah Palin.

And gospel legend Jessy Dixon, pictured above, is dead at 73. Dixon toured for years with Paul Simon, and wrote songs for such diverse talents (and boldface names) as Cher, Diana Ross, and Amy Grant, and perhaps most impressively, appeared some 500 times in Norway alone.
