(RNS) President Obama's forceful speech at the United Nations on Tuesday contained the outlines of what is emerging as his administration's religious doctrine. By Lauren Markoe.


  1. For once I agree with Obama. The freedom to worship whom, where and how we please and the freedom to state our beliefs, however offensive, are essential liberties bestowed by God, who also requires us to possess religious tolerance and to show kindness and empathy to those who might not share our beliefs.

  2. What took Obama so long to recite the essence of American beliefs? Perhaps his speech writer could not ‘read’ what was not in Obama’s head.
