(RNS) Religious leaders already have their wish lists ready for President Obama's second term. Here are 10 officials' thoughts about what they’d like to see in the next four years. By Adelle M. Banks and Jeanie Groh.

  1. I found the wish lists of religious leaders quite noble, mostly agreeing the need to address poverty and equal justice.

    Comments by Richard Land, (president of the Southern Baptist ConventionÂ’s Ethics & Religious Liberty Commission) gave me pause.

    How can the President “respect and protect religious freedom and freedom of conscience for all Americans” and at the same time “defend the sanctity of all human life from conception to natural death in all laws and all medical programs, government and private” and “defend the sanctity of marriage as a relationship between a man and a woman in federal and state law”.

    Those are matters of individual conscience. We are not ruled by a theocracy of one sect of one religion.
