(RNS) A new study of cable news coverage of the Syria crisis released found that upstart Al-Jazeera America covered the fast-moving story of President Obama's threat to strike Syria much the way its cable rivals did.

  1. “Al-Jazeera America differed little from its competitors.”

And there lies the problem. Why should anyone watch AJAM when they’re coverage varies little from anyone else’s? Any Westerner who knows Al Jazeera knows them from AJ English online which had good straight informative news from all over the world plus superior in-depth programming. AJAM in no way resembles the quality of AJ English and looks more like a watered-down revamp pandering to American audiences. AJ had it right the first time with AJ English, now they’ve exchanged quality for expansion effectively cutting off Americans who chose AJE as their main source of news.
