(RNS) Pope Francis’ trajectory from near anonymity to the heights of power is remarkably similar to that of President Obama's. But can the pontiff avoid the pitfalls that have dogged the president?

  2. Obama was elected by the people to govern not to be the Supreme Leader of the United States. Jorge Mario Bergoglio was elected by the Holy Spirit, working through the College of Cardinals, to be the the vicar of Christ here on earth. The Catholic Church is not a democracy. A pope ,no matter how well liked, CANNOT change the doctrines of the church, such as woman priests, same sex marriage, or abortion.
    Yes, the honeymoon will come to an end when the media stops twisting his statements around and tells the entire truth of what he is saying.
    Just as Christ told St. Francis of Assisi , “Rebuild my Church”, I think this is what is His plan for Pope Francis. He wants the gospel preached to all, no matter what the cost and Pope Francis has already given his troops their marching orders!
