(RNS) Could a series of “blood moon” events be connected to Jesus’ return? Some Christians think so.

In the wee hours of Tuesday (April 15) morning, the moon slid into Earth’s shadow, casting a reddish hue on the moon. There are about two lunar eclipses per year, according to NASA, but what’s unusual this time around is that there will be four blood moons within 18 months — astronomers call that a tetrad — and all of them occur during Jewish holidays.

A string of books have been published surrounding the event, with authors referring to a Bible passage that refers to the moon turning into blood. “The sun shall be turned into darkness, and the moon into blood, before the great and terrible day of the Lord,” Joel 2:31 says.

In the New Testament, Acts 2:20 echoes the same doom: “The sun shall be turned into darkness, and the moon into blood, before the great and notable day of the Lord.”

Recent books capitalizing on the event include “Blood Moons: Decoding the Imminent Heavenly Signs” by Washington state author Mark Biltz; “Blood Moons Rising: Bible Prophecy, Israel, and the Four Blood Moons” by Oklahoma pastor Mark Hitchcock; and “Four Blood Moons: Something Is About to Change” by Texas megachurch pastor John Hagee.

Hagee’s book is drawing the most attention, with his book now No. 4 on The New York Times best-seller list in the advice/how to section, and No. 80 on USA Today’s best-seller list. The book by the controversial 74-year-old founder of San Antonio’s Cornerstone Church has also spent 152 days in Amazon’s top 100 books.

In his book, Hagee says something will happen to the nation of Israel due to the tetrad. The four eclipses occur on April 15 and Oct. 8, 2014, and April 4 and Sept. 28 next year. The ones in April occur during Passover, and the ones in October occur during the Jewish Feast of Tabernacles.

Jewish holy days revolve around a lunar calendar with Passover beginning on the first full moon after the beginning of spring, and the Feast of Tabernacles occurring on the first full moon after the beginning of fall. Hagee writes that every time a tetrad occurs on Jewish feast days, something traumatic and “world-changing” happens to Israel.

In 1492, the Jews were expelled from Spain and Christopher Columbus discovered America, giving the Jews a place to go. In 1948, the modern state of Israel was born, and in 1967, Israel won the Six-Day War and recaptured Jerusalem.

During the 300-year interval from 1600 to 1900, there were no tetrads at all, according to NASA eclipse expert Fred Espenak.

This time, Hagee suggests that a Rapture will occur where Christians will be taken to heaven, Israel will go to war in a great battle called Armageddon, and Jesus will return to earth. Hagee planned a special televised event on Tuesday (April 15) on the Global Evangelism Television channel.

But NASA does not consider tetrads as especially rare, saying in a statement that there will be eight sets of tetrads before the year 2100. The most unique thing about the upcoming tetrad is that they are visible from all or parts of the United States, NASA stated.

A publicist for Hagee said the pastor was not available for an interview.

“When you see these signs, the Bible says, lift up your head and rejoice, your redemption draweth nigh,” Hagee said in a sermon, according to the San Antonio Express-News. “I believe that the Heavens are God’s billboard, that He has been sending signals to Planet Earth but we just have not been picking them up.”

Greg Boyd, a pastor of Woodland Hills Church in St. Paul, Minn., called the predictions a waste of time, maybe even bordering on astrology.

“You have an entire population buying into this stuff so no congregation is immune to this,” Boyd said. “It can strike fear into people, which is so unnecessary and wrong.”

The Jewish holy days carry less theological significance than Jesus’ resurrection for many Christians, said Sam Storms, a pastor of Bridgeway Church in Oklahoma City. Any connection between the two events should carry less weight, he said.

“We need to stop giving into some of these sensationalist speculations,” he said. “Maybe Christians are more gullible. One has to twist the data to make it appear as if these are the fulfillment of some biblical prophecy.”

    • “This time, Hagee suggests that a Rapture will occur where Christians will be taken to heaven, Israel will go to war in a great battle called Armageddon, and Jesus will return to earth.”

I just finished reading the book and NO, Hagee neither said nor suggested any such thing nor does scripture put those events together that way, nor did he say something ‘will happen to Israel”, he only pointed out the historical record os previous tetrads and says we can expect such simewhere during this one. (And no ‘date’ was mentioned.) So, this artical may be interesting in a distorted, pot stiring sort of way but it’s no better ‘reporting’ than we usually get from the MSM.

      • The BLOOD MOON
        is a sign from God

        That man was made
        To run roughshod

        Over all his books
        Of science and math

        and surrender instead
        to Yahweh’s wrath.

        “Decide NOW!
        Before its too late!”
        said God eternal
        “I hate to wait!”

        • Bruceb4Almighty

As a Christian I have learned to love thy neighbor. In the world today this wonderful saying is being used less and less and being replaced with war and famine. Sickness of the heart is like a wretched plague that consumes many unbelievers and is very sad to say the least. Find Jesus now and be saved. It was once said to me that those afflicted with self centered minds quickly resort to anger and fear in the face of truth and righteousness. Why then are you angry when someone mentions Jesus and the Bible if you don’t believe? A true unbeliever wouldn’t get irritated when someone speaks of righteousness they would just stay lost. HAVE NO FEAR THE LORD IS COMING! That is of course if you don’t belive or if you truly do as well.

      • Haggae is in deep era, the resurrections take place after the tribulation, as defined by GOD thru the prophets and disciples. No rapture will take place, “RESURRECTION!” will first take place for the “First Fruits” to be picked by GOD, all virgins, pure, blameless and unstained with sin before GOD. Then the second resurrection shall take place regarding those whom shall be put thru the tribulation to be chastised by GOD’s wrath … Many of the Old breed rabbi’s , reverends, pastors and so on, are in deep era regarding the truth… Respectfully, RevAdam

        • Pre trib. post trib. some trib. or no trib. One way or another those who are in Christ Jesus are going up. I personally am pre trib. makes me no less or more Christian than anyone else. Food for thought, where in scripture did God take action without opportunity or warning? Just sayin,

  1. While there is much hysteria among fundamentalist Christians concerning the upcoming lunar tetrad, there are those of us in the Jewish faith who take such signs seriously. History has shown that when lunar tetrads coincide with Jewish holy days, significant events concerning us Jews have taken place. But even we Jews differ in our perspectives. The Talmud states that lunar eclipses are bad signs for us Jews. However, the lunar tetrads that have occurred throughout the past 2,000 years actually turned out to be signs of deliverance from persecution, not persecution itself. Old Testament prophets foretold of the Jews being scattered among the Gentile nations and persecuted, which happened almost continuously since the Babylonian exile, so the Jews of that time already knew what to expect during the centuries that followed. No celestial signs were necessary. It was just a question of when. This would explain why there was no lunar tetrad around the time of the Holocaust. Many people are confused about this because of the shear enormity; 6 million Jews systematically murdered at the hands of the Nazis. But there were many mass killings of Jews down through the centuries, with no signs in the heavens to warn anyone, so the Holocaust, despite the unprecedented scope of it, was not something that hadn’t happened before.

So what should we expect to happen this time around? My guess is the rebuilding of the Temple in Jerusalem, possibly followed by the ingathering of Jews from around the world. That in itself sounds pretty fantastic, but in God all things are possible. Fifty years ago, people would’ve laughed if you told them the USSR would collapse, or that the Internet would be born, or that the US would elect an African-American to the White House. But that’s how fast things change. I look forward to what the blood moons of 2014-2015 will bring. History gives us no reason to be pessimistic, only cautious.

    • WoW!! First, thank you for your proper use of the English language. It was refreshing to read a well written response and not the error-filled diatribe I often come across in many Comment postings. Secondly, thank you for the history lesson. As a gentile (who was born and raised a Roman Catholic but now attends a Messianic Congregation and a Baptist Church), I tend to focus on the recent history of the Holocaust and not of the many other times Jews were persecuted. I shall now use the internet to find out more. Thank you for the inspiration.

Now back to the assault. I swear, if I see another ‘off’ instead of ‘of’ or ‘then’ instead of ‘than’, I may scream. Ugh! I just remembered the ever elusive proper use of ‘your’ and ‘you’re’. That one drives me batty!

    • I’m a Christian myself, but I’m quite excited for what good tidings this will bring my family in Christ. Best case scenario (worst? depending on your perspective) could be something with the 144,000.

    • Jackeline Cadena

Baruch ata Adonai, Elohenu Melech ha olam!
Blessed are You Lord, our G-d king of the universe!
The feasts are yours and through them, You tell us your plan of REDEMPTION, as You beautifully uncover your precious YESHUA.
Thank You for the nation of Israel.
      Thank You for Your faithfulness!

    • So when you explain what YOU think may happen soon in connection with the lunar tetrad, that’s supposed to be a reasonable Jewish perspective.

But when John Hagee explains what HE thinks may happen soon in connection with the same lunar tetrad, that’s supposed to be “fundamentalist hysteria”?

      • Here is what I think will happen. Someone will pull their head out of their [expletive deleted]. Someone else will not. Someone will call out to God, and He will not answer; because He never knew you. Someone else will report my comment as abusive. Yet another will pretend to shepard some of the sheep out of the storm, but instead, they will molest the sheep. Astrology may be a bad word, but there is more truth in patterns of the sky than i have found in any church i set foot in.

    • When the physical place were the new so called brick and rock Temple shall be built and its land given over to the beast and false prophet, prepare, they will cry out peace, peace, peace, but only destruction shall follow. When this sign unfolds the Anti-Christ will reveal itself, in human form. During these 4 Blood moons events, this shall unfold and take place, and the tribulation stage shall show its face boldly. Soon to be seen …. RevAdam

      • @REV Adam,

Does the imminent tribulation mean you won’t need to be collecting an offertory this Easter Sunday in your church?

Or are you going to cover your bases?

        • The sad thing about atheists is that they refuse to accept even physical evidence based on the science they so adamently believe in when it’s presented to them. The lack of accountability for their actions and depressing belief that their purpose here is nonexistent somehow fuels their passionate anger and hatred for something they don’t even bieve in. This seems like a lot of wasted energy from my perspective but who am I to judge? I pray that God makes his way into all of your lives before its too late. Hell won’t seem so imaginary when you’re forced into an eternal stay, all because you believe what a man has coerced you into believing, instead of opening your heart up to love.

  2. It’s funny how every year there is a new date set for the rapture. Look people, we are all going to die, and there’s nothing we can do about it. As a convert to the Roman Catholic Church from an Evangelical Presbyterian Church, i no longer have to accept taking the Bible out of context and make millions of dollars per book after each eclipse, war, or bad day. Happy Easter/Passover everybody..

    • A true Christian does not change his life in any way based on predictions of the rapture. Perhaps we find it interesting to watch how things are happening exactly as God said they would, but to buy into every single web article stating it’s the end of times is flighty. But humans are curious and fear sells so, it’s the nature of the game. Blood moon or not, Christ is coming and it’s an exciting thing to look forward to

      • @Melody,

        “Christ is coming”

This is delusional and so unhealthy. Why do you still believe despite all the obvious problems with it? What sense does it make that Jesus must breath again on earth in order to ‘actuate’ or judge?
If Jesus is completely present here today and acting on our prayers and responding to the world right now….why must he be physically present? What does that accomplish that his current spirit cannot?

        This is psychotic nonsense.

        • The fact that the one Christ (perfect) body was pure and blameless and unstained in sin, and held the perfect Spirit of GOD in it, is what so remarkable about the Lord thy GOD second arrival. He came first equal as us in body form as an example of who we are and were created, the word became flesh, and in his second arrival he comes as himself, as he rised in Spirit, GOD. For we were all created with the same bodies and a soul (spirit) and it is over choice to walk as he did and shall comeforth soon.

          • Dale Casselman

            I totally agree Rev Adam.
It breaks my heart to listen to the foolishness of a man such as Atheist Max, scoffing at something he has no understanding about,..
I actually quake within myself at the thought of what is waiting for the likes of him..
It mean, it really wouldn’t bother me to much if they only suffered for a short time.. Kind of like a lesson learned.. But the eternal consequences.. I shutter at the thought.. I only hope that Max, and those that have his belief, will read Luke 16:14-31..

          • @Dale,

Please don’t worry about me. I’ll be fine. There is no hell.
All of the places and concerns of the Bible: Sin, Hell, Devil, Heaven, Satan, etc…all of it is imaginary. Like a comic book.

Even Jesus says his world “is not of this world” and he means it.
The religious realm is an imaginary place.

        • Jesus came to the earth the first time as Savior of the world to redeem from the punishment of our sin to those who will put their trust in him. He is coming the second time as judge and he will judge the world and yes he will be here in all of His glory

  3. Thank you manic drummer for your comments. I believe Christians should pay closer attention to how the Jewish people understand these signs. God did say they are our examples so if this is a warning to them from God, we will do well to pay attention to what they know about the signs that God gives them. I pray for Israel and the Jews for I know sooner or later they will see who their messiah really is…Christ Jesus!!! I pray more will come to know Him as their Lord and Savior. He is coming soon and yes, maybe today!!! Jesus is saying today what He said when He first came to earth, ” Repent for the Kingdom of God is at hand!” Amen

  4. “But of that day and hour no one knows, not even the angels of heaven, nor the Son, but the Father alone. “For the coming of the Son of Man will be just like the days of Noah…” – Jesus Speaking in Matthew 24:36 – 37

Praying for all Jews and Gentiles to accept Jesus as their Savior. We shouldn’t need a blood moon to help us realize our need for a Savior. We should believe and know it from reading, Truth, God’s Word! May The Holy Spirit open all of our eyes to help us see and give us ears to listen to Him!

        • Not at all.

The Great One needs sacrifices if he is to rise from his slumber at R’lyeh. The prophesies of blood moon foretell them. You think Christians and Jews have a monopoly on astrological premonitions? Think again!

Plus sacrificing the neighbors was a way to avoid giving back the lawnmower I borrowed from them.

          • That you probably need a more well balanced diet.

Chtulhu doesn’t mind. It just means he gets a little more dessert when it is feasting upon you along with the rest of all mankind.

Like you carmelized yourself for its benefit. It is appreciated. :)

    • Science has it’s origin in Philosophy. Philosophy is understanding our world around us and Religion it’s part of that. Religion it’s Philosophy…it’s a cultural expression…Science it’s the vehicle to explain our profound questions about life and the divine….there’s no simple answer to the mystery of life…in my opinion

      • I take it that your “it’s” means “is”. On that understanding, your post is self-contradictory. You first say that religion is a part of philosophy; then, in the next sentence, you say that religion is philosophy. It cannot be both only a part of and all of philosophy at the same time.

Furthermore, I would challenge the whole idea that religion is a part of philosophy. Philosophy seeks a reason-based understanding of the world. Religion takes its understanding of the world, not from reason, but from revelation, from books deemed to be sacred and the word of god. The two approaches to the world are conflicting. Psychology may be able to understand the mind of persons using each approach, but that does not unite the different approaches either.

    • It’s not superstition, it’s faith in God! When you study scripture and prove it to be true and genuine for your own life, you begin to see things differently. Science, facts and logic is all important but faith takes you a step further. Taste and see!

      • Same thing. The only difference between religious faith and superstition is which side of it you are on. Both are beliefs in the absence of evidence affecting one’s behavior

If its your belief, its faith, if it belongs to someone else it is superstition.

    • Even science is inconsistent with psychology, and math and sociology, even when we measure time using geology and math and radioactivity we measure with laboratory type conditions that we do not know hold constant over time or how atmospheric conditions change our calculations We don’t know enough of anything we only know in part and have to presume in faith and science constants that we can not empirically prove. Is Darwinism proven empirical science? what about Freud’s id,or libido? Yet both are taught in Universities as objective truths. Why do we politicize and try to turn these mysteries into a debate between religion and science when they both work together. We just don’t have the apparatus to measure that, or microscopes or telescopes powerful enough to see truths that are bigger than our nonsensical arguments and debates. Yet we fight each other back against white, male vs female, in group vs out group for a world we all leave so soon. I find this tragic and short sighted. I work with electricity and air conditioning technician, yet I do not understand it. Nor can I see the magnetic field set up by a simple armature, but I can manipulate electricity enough to use it wire it, and repair and figure out why it isn’t working. That’s it. Where it comes from and why? How does it relate to the magnetic fields of the earth and why? I don’t know All I can say is someone much wiser than all men put together created it.I constantly pray and yes look inside and outside of myself for answers. I don’t claim to know it all. Even the so called experts have different ideologies and disagree with one another. We as temporal men don’t have all the answers.

      • But science has the ability to spark further inquiry, discovery and addition to our base of knowledge. Science always leaves room to learn more. Plus it requires no effort to be accepted. No faith required. Presentation of evidence and methods are its own proof.

Religious belief is the very opposite. It forecloses inquiry, limits discovery and adds nothing to what we already know. It depends on NOT having information to form a basis of belief. The very definition of faith. Belief with nothing to back it up in a substantive fashion. Religious truths can never be proven. Only felt. Whatever answers one gets from them will always be subjective and personal.

Religion and science are two separate fields entirely. There is no nexus point between them without undermining and cheapening both.

I take it by critiquing Darwinism, you were trying to make a point about Evolution. It was silly. Attacking Evolution based on what Darwin wrote is like attacking the plausibility of powered flight by criticizing the Wright Brothers. :)

        • Couldn’t have said it better myself. Freud was a habitual cocaine user, which has brought many of his works validity into question. That doesn’t mean he didnt further the advancements of modern psychology. I mean we wouldn’t make any sort of progress in any sort of field if people didn’t question the established norms and at least try. I think we learn more when we find out what doesn’t work and what isn’t true than we do by actually proving something right.

        • Faith was never meant to be “felt” or “proven” otherwise it would no longer be faith. Faith is the belief in things unseen, so Faith in God is the perfect example. No man has seen the Father (God), but Jesus. We have faith in Jesus and the things he told us (in the Bible). Salvation is impossible without Faith in Jesus and the sacrifice he made at the cross (for us!) and his resurrection 3 days later. We have Faith that he will forgive us our sins if we ask him to because he said he would (you can’t earn it). He does not lie. His promises hold true. Heaven and earth will pass away, but His words never will.

        • So science requires no faith? Then explain the Big Bang theory where did the rocks come from that collided to make earth. You don’t know so you have faith that were there.

Btw The Big Bang theory is bogus

    • @ Marcel Kincaid: No one here is speaking of religion, merely the fulfillment of God’s prophecies and Christ’s return. I certainly can understand your sentiments in regards to man made religions, however Logic, Science and Factual information would not exist without God to begin with. The existence of God is something you may ponder about or maybe you just mock it. However, I certainly hope for your sake that you take the time to perhaps look into what Christ did for you and how much he does love you. He wouldn’t have died on the cross if he hadn’t.

    • It is if you have never died and relived, expereinced death and the other side. Facts are brang forth from an expereinced, not by tales or myths, but by the reality of what we witness… Religions are dead works, spiritual things are life giving waters, especially when the Lord Christ leads and guide a soul unto them… thru his perfect Holy works…

  5. “I love you all” or is it ya”ll, or “I love the lot of you”? Lol “Neraka”, you especially reason being you are correct about the english language. And its correct spelling. I’m do believe that in this society and the way of the world, we tend to over look and take for granted how beutiful the english writting and language can be. Thank you hon for your comment and God Bless all of you in Jesus name only Amen

  6. On page 244 of John Hagee’s book ‘Four Blood Moons’ he clearly states that he is not predicting that the blood moons mean the Rapture is going to happen. Rather he states that the blood moons mean God is about to change the course of human history again. Just thought I’d comment because I just finished the book yesterday.

        • @ric,
The Jesus IN YOUR MIND never changes – because that is the only Jesus you know.

But Jesus has changed through history so many times it is no longer possible to keep track. 20,000 versions of Christianity are praying each other into Hell over their different DECLARATIONS about what Jesus is.

And each one will say Jesus never changes. This concept is almost too solipsistic and self-congratulating to bear.

  7. What renders Christians too intellectually weak to understand the concept of an ‘eclipse’? I guess basic celestial mechanics are too difficult for their Christian brains to understand.

    • You might want to write a book about how smart you are and have mastered the mysteries of life to include aging, disease, and death and tell us which one of your creations have changed mankind for the better. I’m wondering what a Christian is and what is your criteria is? Is it opinionated or did you create this category also and know all the characteristics and nuances of everyone one of them. Are you sure you are not a narrow minded blow hard that’s stereotyped humanity according to your subjective intellectual shortcomings?

      • You can make more money writing a book about how some astronomical event in the near future will predict some religious nonsense peppered with eschatological ramblings to get people all riled up.

Nobody ever lost money overestimating the intelligence of religious believers.

  8. There’s actually events that have to take place first. According to bible prophecy what happens to the moon, is merely one of the signs that definitely take place. Why would Christians be so fixated on this. What happens first is that the “good news of God’s kingdom” has to be preached to all the earth. Then the end would come. The 7th king of Revelation hands power tothe 8th. Certainly an observable event. The 8th then turns to the great harlot(false religion) & destroys her. When they turn to those left, God has his son destroy the world’s govts & armies. And that is when these signs in heaven will occur. How any of can be part of that remaining group should be the subject. It’s clear God will use whatever means he wants to. Things we commonly are familiar with will be part of those signs. But its the faith of the those things that aren’t so familar, but that are also part of those prophecies have even greater significance. What happens after Armageddon will be the answer to Jesus’ prayer…as in heaven ALSO UPON EARTH….

It is ironic that I am sitting in a 5 guys in Hillcrest reading the above comments, or is that iconic? There are so many points to cover and my time apparently is limited, so I will try to be literate and eshew any references to comments by people with only amusement as a goal.

God is clear when he speaks to humanity. Prophets are few and have only one measure to go by, 100% accuracy. Pastor Hagee has not made a prophecy, but a reasoned statement concerning the events.

On page 244 of John Hagee’s book ‘Four Blood Moons’ he clearly states that he is not predicting that the blood moons mean the Rapture is going to happen. Ours is a binary universe, off/on, yes/no, ect. In our universe, God constructed what we learned to observe over time. The complexity and order we observe is only a small part of the construct.

All the catch words mean nothing because they all have built in biases. Belief in God comes with the knowledge that there are two destinations after this death. The default destination is hell. This is because one need do nothing to get there. Heaven is a different matter, there is a clear and concise instruction in the manual (I call the Bible a manual because it is an instruction and guidence compilation written by experts in the field of theological information and history) in more than one place about everlasting life, Heaven and ones personal salvation.

The blood moons are instructional and may coincide with a great upheaval in the middle east. That, though is not the point of life, death and where one ends up after this life is over. If you are not ready to face God right this second, the blood moons may occur after your demise. The question then is are you ready to meet God right now? If the answer is yes, then I will see you on the New Earth in New Jerusalem. If the answer is anything else then I pray for you to find the narrow path and place yourself on it by accepting Jesus as your personal Saviour and make an unalterable choice to live forever with those who before you have become born again. No one is rejected, turned away or asked to get in line. Do it Get it be born again. God loves you, even those who disbelieve, ridicule or othewise find reason to reject Jesus’s message of salvation. Thank you for your interest in my words all the way to the end.

    • @Barrett,

One very powerful and meaningful word comes to mind as I read your….ahem.

It starts with a “B” and ends with a “T”
And the word I’m thinking of isn’t “Brilliant”.

      • There truly is no hope for the US. An alarming number of people in this country openly shovel this superstitious nonsense as if it were based on some kind of reality. Imagine how these wack-jobs would be if these events weren’t actually predicted by science.

I really am tired of all of this “magic sky daddy” talk and the companion books. It’s tiresome.

        • Religion promotes and relies on delusional nonsense.
Religion is the enemy of clear thinking and of civilization more broadly and it needs to fade away to the corners of society.

“Comparative Religion 101″ should be taught in public schools so all children can see how the sausage of religion is made – a bunch of ridiculous philosophies built on tribalism, superstition and savagery.

      • Max,

You seem like a smart guy who knows more about God than most Christians (which automatically makes you a believer) but the word you’re thinking about isn’t 1 word. It’s called a “compound word” my friend (meaning 2 individual words put together to form 1 meaning). It’s ok, we as Christians sometimes refer to it as well (probably more than we are ready to admit) but the difference between you (Maxi) and us, is that we are FORGIVEN because we have accepted the truth of Jesus dying for our sin. Since you truly believe in God more than you are ready to admit, NOW is a good time for you to receive the same atonement laid out for your sin my friend : ). Max, Jesus LOVES you!!

        • @Rick R.

You said, “You seem like a smart guy who knows more about God than most Christians (which automatically makes you a believer)”

          Um. That is ridiculous.

I also understand the religion of the Aztecs better than Christians.
That doesn’t mean I believe that ripping out a beating heart will make the sun rise tomorrow morning.

          • “I also understand the religion of the Aztecs better than Christians.
That doesn’t mean I believe that ripping out a beating heart will make the sun rise tomorrow morning.”

            You mean it doesn’t work?

Dammit! What am I supposed to do now with a freezer full of human hearts?

      • Well, at least you finally got around to spelling C’s name correctly. I was beginning to wonder if HP’s fans were as far down the literacy scale as HP sometimes implied that various minority groups were.

        • I blame my cell phone’s auto-correct function. Always drops the second “h”. It is truly software from the eldritch reaches beyond sanity.

I was beginning to wonder if Christians were just a bunch of superstitious cultists, much like myself. I don’t anymore. Doc you are a fanatic after my own heart. :)

Next blood moon is October 8. Maybe we can get together. I will sacrifice someone annoying. Probably a telemarketer. You can sit around waiting for the Rapture. First one whose god destroys the world wins.

Pay atention. There is a test at the end. And it is pass/fail.

      • Mintytoothpick

The millisecond after you take you last breath, you’ll know… Until then all your fancy words are just you trying to convince yourself there is no God, no life after death

      • “I claim to be an historian. My approach to Classics is historical. And I tell you that the evidence for the life, the death, and the resurrection of Christ is better authenticated than most of the facts of ancient history . . . ”

        E. M. Blaiklock

Mintytoothpick adds: Obviously, skeptics are not very good students of world history

          • He did not commit suicide. He was sacrificed for you and I and ALL. There’s a huge difference. To lay down your life for your friends is the greatest love of all. Suicide is an act of desperation. Jesus layed down his physical life for us as a perfect sacrifice for the forgiveness of all of our sins for those who will only believe in his death and resurrection paradise awaits us after this temporary physical life!.

          • @Atheist Max

You mock what you don’t understand. Suicide? Consider, for a moment, the ramifications of an eternal God emptying a part of Himself into His finite physical Creation to set an example to His Creation on how to live; and die. And to have three earth days & nights separated from His eternal being, forever.

To be honest, my fallible finite limited human mind cannot even grasp it; yet, I at least honestly try.

            May Yahweh bless you.

Some very interesting and illuminating comments made here. I saw the better part of the eclipse, the latter portion was obscured by cloud; from the Pacific Northwest it didn’t appear particularly red, at least not at the 45.5 parallel. As to the culmination of human events, watching, waiting, and responding as events pass will require patience and trust in God; even the greatest biblical prophets could not see everything.

    • Remember when people thought the Mayan calendar was going to predict the end of the world? Or Haley’s Comet? 1999/New Millennia? If the world ends, then it ends. Sitting here freaking out about it isn’t going to make it go away or get you into heaven.

  12. The Blood Moon arrived at Holy Week. As a Catholic, I some how sense these tidings are more directed at the Jewish people, and I read a piece recently from another analyzing and reflecting, that he perceived the restoration of Israel by signs that will end in 2015.

I have read some of Spain’s history. They were overrun and plundered by 700 years of Moorish Muslims. They were working to restore Spain as a Catholic country with one faith and to unify it against future attacks. To this day the Islamic world still sees Spain as belong to itself. The country could not tolerate divisions and dissensions within its lands, and those who worked against it were expelled. Alot to read and understand the Spanish history.

Likewise, the idea of rapture is a recent one, coming out of 1800′s Great Britain. I think it best we stay with Apostolic teachings. The rapture we understand is that which comes at the end of the world, those who will be judged and witness the new heaven and new earth.

As for us, Holy Week is Christ’s passion and He remaining with us in Word and Sacrament that provide us His Blood, Body, Soul, and Divinity. What more can we want??? Christ Himself is the Kingdom among us.

  13. The blood moons are one thing the bible also talks about the sun going into darkness. Why hasn’t that happened? Unless, of course, you are willing to wait until the next solar eclipse. Want to bet that they can’t happen simultaneously?

    • Jesus knows the time

The sun goes dark every night.
Why do these people get hung up on all this prophetic nonsense found in on or two verses of the bible? Hagee has been wrong so many times before, and yet here we go again……..
Jesus is coming back for a second time – at the end. No tribulation or secret showing up………….and he is quite clear what we should be concentrating on until that time………my new testament with Jesus’ words in red have far more significance than a verse in Joel………..get with the kingdom program and stop people like Hagee making tons of cash out of the gullible.

  14. The ancient Celts considered lunar eclipses, especially full eclipses (preceded by a blood moon), as fortunate.

Promoting certainty about the Apocalypse is certainly a big money maker.

Exactly why did the world not end during all those many, man preceding blood moons?

Another prediction of the “Apocalypse now” nonsense to be added to the thousands of such predictions over the last 2000 years. It’s apparently impossible to embarrass these people.

    A well deserved Bah Humbug.

Typical reaction is that any opinion that you do not like may be due to upsetting your comfortable world. The feudalistic European world in the Dark Ages needed to end but Roman Catholic domination gave some people power that they did not want to release. Almost no one today will disagree that changes were required. Today the world has moved toward another form of slavery it is caused by dishonest currency by governments that are bought off by criminal bankers with dishonest manipulation of currency. Political liberals do not want to give up the welfare state despite the fact that God’s word condemns taxation, it is theft. Once someone has power they create irrational justifications for maintaining it. Changes are occurring internationally. Powerful central bankers are being called gangsters, ,justifiably. Do not believe it, you are living in a dream world. The four blood red moons are NOT being promoted to conclude the Rapture of the Christian church is very soon to happen. A Jubilee is about to happen and it is going to upset some peoples comfortable dream state. They are living in a Matrix, of self deception. Please do government give me a comfortable living off my neighbors income. Any one who opposes this is a racist. No way.

  16. Ok I am literally dying of laughter at the moment because like with every end of the world scare, everyone is trying to shove their own beliefs down each other’s throat. Christians, if it is true and Jesus is truly coming then it is great news for us. But to everyone, going on a bloody tangent about your beliefs or lack of beliefs is only feeding into the unnecessary drama and sense of manic hostility that would be better off left alone. In conclusion: It’s just best to let things happen as they’re meant to be, because no human can see the future.
    A 15 year old :D

  17. well Mayan calender has ended. last pope has arrived. Child from east has arrived (jeane dixon’s predicion). King of terror (Genghis khan) has arrived (July 1999, Nostradamus)

    Lets rumble.

  18. dear Believers and non-Believers

non-Believers know this (and I say this gently) God loves you and believes in you even if you don’t believe in Him. He waits for you, no matter how bad you think you’ve been He has you covered if you only accept Him. How? By acknowledging you are a sinner in need of a savior and accepting His Son who willingly gave up His life to save yours. He took your place if you will accept the gift He gives with no strings attached, ask Him to come into your life, into your heart and if you let him change you, you will be free.

Believers stay the course trust in God and fear Not for these things must come to pass it was written and so it shall be. Let us love our enemy and pray for those who curse us. Pray for the world that all may come to know Christ and be spared the lake of fire. For that wasn’t meant for man but for the devil and his angels. Share the love of God with the world remember our war isn’t with flesh but it is a spiritual one. The world is full of confused, angry, and hurting lost souls we must reflect the Light in this dark world. Time is waning for He is coming soon…

  19. I dont think it is just.the blood moon.I think its a lot of factors. The blood moon is just another one. Read the signs of the times. And no one knows when jesus is coming. But you know that it is soon. So get ready.

  20. It’s all very interesting but the blood moon appearing in America is, in my opinion, probably not so important. America isn’t the worlds centrepoint.

If they occur over Jerusalem, Rome or Constantiopole I would be more convinced of something supernatural. I am not starting a fight over which nation has religious supremacy but at least the old and new Rome(s) and Jerusalem have legitimate historical links to Judaism and Christianity’s founding days and people, America (though I do love her) is strongly protestant which is a non-originating denomination and is not a site of religious significance (at least to Jews and Christians). I really mean no offence – I do love America.

An simple example of what I am trying to say is : if the blood moons were to occur over the Democratic Republic of the Congo and most of the people there worshiped under the banner of the “Church of the Congo” would it still be as impressive/noteworthy? I dont think people would be getting concerned as much.

  21. The Christ may certainly return soon, but that does not mean end of the world or anything like that. The mistake is in believing that everything will end or that we are the only ones to be saved. See christmaitreya.com for more info.

  22. Just scrolling through this page the amount of times Atheist Max has posted tickles me – quite the preacher. Its beliefs being forced down peoples throats that atheists usually dislike!

Taking his lead for entertainment, maybe I should go onto a culinary forum and try to convince all the fans that cooking is a crock of sh1t that no one should invest themselves in when you can easily buy pre-made meals these days. Then again, its pointless and makes me look like an amateur.

For all the porn the internet has spawned there must be at least as many internet-educated atheists who have “discovered” their all-powerful wisdom and ability to speak freely online without hurting their parents feelings!

It’s about time they realised they are not convincing anyone. Faith, or the loss of it, is discovered though contemplation and experience not by what looks like teenage rebellious posts on an internet forum. It’s everywhere and it no longer invites discussion -it has become an expected bore and fades into insignificance like a YouTube advert.

  23. Hagee may be completely wrong about the apocalypse or the end of the world, but he is actually pretty accurate about the return of the Christ. See christhasreturned.org for more info.

  24. Dear christians, brothers and sisters of mine. Stop throwing pearls to swine please ! Let ‘atheist max’ and others belueve what they want! Know this, they DON’T CARE IF GOD LIVES THEM OR NOT.When the day comes(and it will) let the Master and Creater of the universe get face to face with them. In that day they will not utter a word I promise you. There will be nothing to be said, even though they now have such ability to ridicule Him. Leave the pundits alone, let Him have the last word !!

  25. I apologize for my spelling mistakes. I had posted it when I noticed them. They actually are my pressing the wrong letter. I know you are smart enough to figure out what I meant. I was saying TO LEAVE THE PUNDIT ATHEISTS ALONE. Can’t you see they are so smart God will need to enquiry of them to solve the world’s problens?

  26. I had a dream that a bride and the bridegroom were at the door of the church ready to go in to celebrate the wedding ceremony but the invited guests and spectators were bored uni, impressed and some dozing like waiting to catch a plane at an airport. I was stunned that this event was being treated so lightly and as unimportant and I started trying to enthuse and wake up these people. The groom (Jesus is at the door with his bride the Church waiting for this marriage to take place at any moment) ,
Perhaps what is happening in Gaza has something to do with rthe appearance of the first blood moon. Get ready…. Everyone . Jesus IS coming back ready or not.
    Israel is the timepiece .
    Wake up sleeper

  27. Israel and Gaza

The little book of Zephaniah (3 chapters or 53 verses) begins by prophesying the destruction of Judah (the Southern Kingdom) in the days of King Nebuchadnezzar and Babylon. It moves on to prophecies about Judah and the nations as the day of the Lord (a term often applied to the Tribulation period that Zephaniah used more than any other prophet in the Bible) approaches and plays out. Then, it finishes with Judah’s restoration during the millennial reign of the Messiah.

These prophecies clearly have past fulfillments, but some writers think Zephaniah was saying those experiences would be small compared to a greater fulfillment in the future. One of Zephaniah’s more famous statements reads, “The great day of the LORD is near, it is near, and hasteth greatly, even the voice of the day of the LORD: the mighty man shall cry there bitterly. That day is a day of wrath, a day of trouble and distress, a day of wasteness and desolation, a day of darkness and gloominess, a day of clouds and thick darkness, A day of the trumpet and alarm against the fenced cities (Israel has built a fence to protect her cities), and against the high towers” (Zeph. 1:14-16).

Dropping down to Zeph. 2:1, God told the Jews to gather themselves together (to assemble) and He calls Judah a “nation not desired.” Israel is clearly the apple of God’s eye, but this could mean she is a nation not desired by God at this time because she has rejected her Messiah. And it could also mean that she is a nation not desired by the nations of the world because they want to destroy her.

In Zeph. 2:2, God told the Jews He wants them to assemble “Before the decree bring forth (before the 7 year covenant is signed), before the day pass as the chaff, before the fierce anger of the LORD come upon you, before the day of the LORD’S anger come upon you (to assemble before the Tribulation Period comes upon the Jews).

In Zeph. 2:3, God told the Jews and all who will humble themselves to “Seek ye the LORD, all ye meek of the earth, which have wrought his judgment; seek righteousness, seek meekness: it may be ye shall be hid in the day of the LORD’S anger.” He wants the Jews and everyone on earth who will humble themselves to meet before the Tribulation Period begins to seek three things: the Lord, righteousness and meekness. Those who do may be hidden (Raptured) before the Tribulation Period begins, but after it begins it will be too late.

In Zeph. 2:4, God mentions four cities: “For Gaza shall be forsaken, and Ashkelon a desolation: they shall drive out Ashdod at the noon day, and Ekron shall be rooted up.”

God said Gaza, one of the largest and most northern cities in the Gaza Strip, will be forsaken. As I write this article, IDF planes are dropping leaflets in the northern part of the Gaza Strip for a second time advising residents to forsake their homes and clear out. The first time Israel did this, thousands of residents left, but many stayed because they were told to ignore Israel’s warnings. This time, it looks like Israel’s troops will enter the city and it remains to be seen how many people will stick around.

God said Ashkelon, a Jewish city of more than 100,000 people about 8 miles north of the Gaza Strip border, will become desolate. Its closeness to Gaza makes it a frequent target of Muslim rockets. As I write this article, more than 60 rockets have been fired at Ashkelon in recent days; an Israeli teen has been seriously injured; an Israeli man has been lightly wounded; many Jews are spending the day in bomb shelters; and some have moved to safer territory.

God said Ashdod’s residents will be driven out. More than a quarter of a million people live in Ashdod and it is about 18 miles from Gaza. As I write this, the Iron Dome Missile System has shot down 5 rockets; a Patriot missile has shot down a drone; an 8-year old boy has been slightly injured while playing in his yard; fear and anxiety are spreading in Ashdod; and Hamas has rejected an Egyptian cease fire proposal.

Kiryat Ekron is a Jewish city of slightly more than 10,000 people. It is named after the Biblical city of Ekron and it is located about the same distance from Gaza as is Ashdod. I have read of sirens sounding in Ekron and the surrounding area, but no injuries.

I can’t predict how things will play out, but a best case scenario could be another temporary suspension of hostilities. And a worst case scenario could be that this conflict spreads into a war with Israel’s neighbors (Psa. 83), including Syria (Isa. 17) and Egypt (Isa. 19), or even the Russian/Islamic invasion of Israel (Ezek. 38-39). One more thing, based on the Jewish Talmud (not the Bible) some are saying a Tetrad of blood moons are an omen of war for Israel. It is a debatable issue, but no one can deny that the first blood moon in the current Tetrad occurred on April 15, 2014 (the Feast of Passover) and the next one will occur on October 8, 2014 (the Feast of Tabernacles). Between these first two blood moons in this Tetrad war is raging.

[Last minute update: Israel is attacking the Gaza Strip from one end to the other by land, sea and air. It is too early to say that Gaza will be forsaken at this time; and Ashdod, Ashkelon and Ekron are still inhabited; but God is in control, His Word must eventually be fulfilled, war rarely goes exactly as planned and, if God allows it, I plan to keep watching Israel and Gaza.

  30. Thank you Jim! I know as well, that several statements in this article are meant to lead astray from fact.
Couple of things I would like to clarify….
    1) The Scriptures written in Hebrew do NOT say the feasts of the Jews….They say “the feasts of Yahweh” ( HIS name usually translated to the English LORD) They are HIS set apart times ….
    2) The feasts of Yahweh that HE commands us to pay attention to are for our instruction in righteous living and all of Bible prophecy is laid out in them and they are type and shadow of what Messiah Y’shua has done in the earth (spring feasts) and what He still has left to do (fall feasts). That is why we are to rehearse them every year and teach our children with them. If people would come to understand this they would understand how we got so mixed up.
We in Christianity are following man made commandments instead of the ones God (Yahweh) gave. (read Mt 15:9 and Mark 7:7 to see what HE says about that)
Anyway….check NASA …there are no more sets of Tetrad BRMoons that fall on Holy Days for many , many years. Top that with the fact that this is a Shmita year and 2015 is a Jubilee year AND there is a Solar eclipse in between 2014 and 2015 sets of Moons you have a huge sign of something very significant happening . We wait to see what it is! Are you ready for whatever? Especially if you are a scoffer?

  31. According to the Bible, Pastor Hagee knows no more about when the rapture will occur than I do. To even suggest the rapture will occur because of this blood moon is just another way to get media attention!

  2. […] In the wee hours of Tuesday (April 15) morning, the moon slid into Earth’s shadow, casting a reddish hue on the moon.
