SEATTLE (RNS) The church may decide to affiliate with groups such as Camp Fire or the Baden-Powell Service Association, or it may continue a scouting program independent of other groups.

  1. Why no mention of this other national, non-discriminary scouting program, which is rapidly growing?

(note – they are not related to the fundamentalist “Navigators” group.)

    another program is here: http://www.adventurescoutsusa.org/

  2. Medieval thinking ultimately loses more followers than it gathers. People who are religious but also have the ability to reason will look outside their Iron Age writings for a perspective that they aren’t getting. Their investigations lead them to others who look for truth and aren’t finding it in Iron Age mythology. The priest class has made a living pretending to know things they don’t really know since the dawn of Man. They will fight tooth and toenail to keep people ignorant. The good people in this church are on the way to genuine enlightenment.

  3. Here is a congregation that holds to the ideals of their faith and makes me wonder why other congregations won’t do the same thing. It seems to me that someone who has the courage of their convictions won’t stand up for the oppressed and reviled, Jesus did this in his day and we need more of this kind of congregation to do the same. They are to be commended for their lack of fear and I am glad to let the world know that this congregation is one, I an atheist/agnostic would gladly attend.

  4. While I have no comment on this matter… I’d like to point out that the people in the picture aren’t holding a Scout sign. The scout sign has three fingers, Cub Scout has two but they’re spread apart.

Also, people need to realize that the BSA is moving in the right direction but it’s impossible to please everyone. I invite you to read this sickening statement on a page of a “scouting” program that was formed BECAUSE the BSA know “allows gay scouts”. http://www.traillifeusa.com/2013/09/12/new-organization-offers-alternative-boy-scouts/
