VATICAN CITY (RNS) One of the most powerful men in the Vatican, charged with cleaning up corruption and fostering financial reform, has outraged survivors of sex abuse by clergy by likening the church to a trucking company that refuses to take responsibility for a driver who molested women.

Cardinal George Pell, a member of Pope Francis’ advisory Council of Cardinals, was appointed the Vatican’s first economic prefect early this year by a pontiff who openly admires his “tenacity.”

But the former archbishop of Sydney has been unable to put Australia’s clerical sex abuse scandal behind him since his move to Rome.

Victim support groups expressed their anger this week after Pell gave video testimony from the Vatican to an Australian government inquiry looking into responses to child sex abuse by the Catholic Church and other institutions.

Using a hypothetical example, Pell said the church was no more responsible for cases of child abuse carried out by church figures than a trucking company would be if it employed a driver who molested women.

“It would not be appropriate, because it’s contrary to the policy, for the ownership, leadership of that company to be held responsible,” Pell told the inquiry. “Similarly with the church and the head of any other organization.

“It is, I think, not appropriate for legal culpability to be foisted on the authority figure.”

The Survivors Network of those Abused by Priests, which represents 18,000 people around the world, said it was appalled by Pell’s testimony and accused the Vatican of failing to protect children.

“He shows that he really has absolutely no conception of what is appropriate or inappropriate behavior and what are appropriate or inappropriate things to say to survivors,” said SNAP’s Nicky Davis, who attended the inquiry in Melbourne, Australia.

Victims were also outraged by the Vatican’s refusal to hand over files requested by the Australian inquiry since the pope has signaled a tougher approach to fighting clerical sexual abuse and established a Vatican committee that includes Irish abuse survivor Marie Collins.

Francis met six victims of clerical sexual abuse — from Germany, Ireland and England — for the first time in July and asked for their forgiveness.

In May, a U.N. panel was told that 848 clerics had been expelled from the church between 2004 and 2013 for sexual abuse and the church had paid $2.5 billion in compensation to victims of clerical abuse in the U.S. alone.

  1. Cardinals are chosen because they are very ready to be sycophant compliers with the Vatican. Seldom is a mistake made in that system of choosing. Francis seems to be an exception.

Pell has always been well known to be one of those sycophant compliers with the royal system. It was a horrid mistake for Francis to include Pell in his “Gang of Eight.” It seems that was done to make it appear that all segments of the church were involved.

As good as Francis seems to be, his tenuous tenure so far has been proof that the so-called College of Cardinals and the Vatican curia are really in control of church matters, that popes are nothing but figureheads. Bad individuals like Pell should have been excluded from Francis’ council. He was well known. No excuse.

It has been that way for many centuries. That is because the cardinals elect the pope, that is why papal elections are limited to cardinals. And that is why popes seldom do anything that will not satisfy the cardinals and the curia. The hierarchy is not as much a ladder as an oligarchy with a royal council at the top. .

The only correction to prevent the church from succumbing more certainly to the terminal illness that is threatening it is our vastly improved spread of knowledge. Our knowledge of the corrupt mentalities and tricks of certain cardinals and the curia must result in the creation of a balance of authority from the people in the pews to control the clergy from top to bottom whom the sex scandal has exposed for being so sinful and so criminal.

Religion News Service supplies a vital part of the improved knowledge spread that is absolutely vital for saving any remnant of the church. Theologian Elizabeth Johnson, CSJ, a nun the U.S. bishops have been trying to squelch for years with their dirty tricks is another. Johnson’s nuns’ group, the Leadership Conference of Women Religious–who wisely and defiantly gave Johnson their highest award this year–stand together as another.

The dominion of the hierarchy over parish priests and the dominion of their combination over the people in the pews must be brought to a screeching halt by a thorough spread of knowledge to those people in the pews and then by them. The clergy will never perform that need.

The Catholic hierarchy are to the people in the pews what the Koch brothers, the Walton family, the Romneys, Sheldon Adelson, and all the other wealthy “free marketeers” and their bought-and-owned politicians are to the vast majority of ordinary people in this country.

The people in the pews, the despised and denigrated “lay people” who are the vast majority of the People of God are like the ordinary citizen-voters of this nation. They must rise up against the evil oligarchies of church and nation that persist in maintaining evil dominion over them. “Be gone, Satan!” Be gone, the likes of George Pell! And be gone, the evil, extremist right wing of economics and politics in this nation.

    • Wowwww… Talk about passing the buck….although it appears they have been passing billions of dollars in compensation to victims of their priests!!

I would suggest that all parishioners just leave this church in mass exodus, as I doubt they will make any changes in their procedures and handling of priests. They are from their father, Satan, as the religious leaders in Jesus’ days on earth were.

    • Allan Wafkowski

Cardinal Pell is spot on. It is wrong to hold culpable the employer for the hidden actions of an employee. The professional victims have found a cash-cow and will fight like the devil to keep the cash flowing. Where else can a man make hundreds of thousands of dollars from an unsubstantiated claim of abuse made 40 years after the supposed fact?

      • Uh, have you ever heard of the law of agency? These pathetic perverts in dresses WERE the church to the victims they abused. They carried all the authority of the church, acted for the church, and for all intents and purposes were the church’s representatives in the field. Add to that the fact that these twisted minds are usually moved from place to place as problems accrue, without even being chastised is a real signal that the church is complicit in their crimes. GUILTY AS CHARGED!
Get out, people, get out of the church, get out of religion. God is not going to help you and neither is the tooth fairy.

      • Allan,

Likely most of the parents of these victims paid the Roman Catholic Organization/Institution for services—some might even see this as a type of PRODUCT, and they have paid with their time, which to many, translates as money. What did they receive in return? Even their “teachings” can be viewed as PRODUCT. What is the result of the teaching? You cannot deny what their teachings throughout the history of the RCC have TAUGHT the MEMBERS (which I am told by ROMAN CATHOLICS IS FAMILY) … something that caused them to trust the PAID workers of this Institution. What of the many SACRAMENTS and contractual services taught?
        1. Transubstantiation Theory
        2. Confession
        3. Indulgences
        4. Annulment
        5. Last Rites
        6. Oil of Unction … just to name a few (past and present. Although some still believe things like Last Rites as I saw this recently in the news)

The RCC CANNOT deny they “advertised” these services, and received money, and that the members—those having to be confirmed or converted—to receive these, often paying. Money was taken … in the parishes, schools and other Roman Catholic/Catholic advertised services. Did they cross the line in what they promised their members, instead giving them a failed product?

If a toy sold by a company is defective, having been improperly made, and children are injured and die because of it—who is responsible?

Also, women molested by a trucker, to my knowledge, have not paid the trucking company/organization/business for services.

If the Roman Catholic Church now wishes to be thought of as a BUSINESS, a COMPANY … then they need to reclassify themselves that all governments might see where they stand. This would then dramatically change their status not only with their members, but with the Religion of Christianity.

        Peace and Love

  2. Pell dared to tell a royal commission that “the Catholic Church was mo more responsible for child abuse carried out by church figures than a trucking company would be if they employed a driver who molested a woman.”

Pell continues an arrogant participation in that abuse by himself and other bishops who dared to keep rotating clerical molesters until they were exposed for participation in this world-wide criminality of these molesters.

Pell is unfit to be a clergyman, much less to be in the high offices to which “St.” John Paul and Benedict raised him, even to inclusion in Francis’ worldwide council of cardinals. When will this stop?

Pell is as guilty as any pedophile or ephebophile. Pell has been a climber in the church royalty. It is not enough that Pell must resign in a year or two because of his age. Francis should fire him right now!

  3. Francis hasn’t openly done anything about Archbishop Meyers of Newark, NJ, or Archbishop Gregory of Atlanta, GA, both of whom have built huge mansions for themselves at huge expense to the people in the pews.

Gregory says he is going to sell his monstrosity, and we don’t know if that is the result of any push from the Vatican. But since Meyers proceeds in his disgusting material indulgence, at an even higher cost, it can only be presumed that Gregory succumbed to pressure in the South where the church is not nearly as embedded, not to any silent pressure from Francis’ Vatican.

I wrote a letter to Francis months ago, urging him to put a stop to this rank materialism by his clergy. He did fire Bishop “Bling” of Germany for even worse outrages. I have never received even an acknowledgement.

The wonder that screams for explanation is why the people in the pews in the Archdiocese of Newark, NJ, haven’t demanded that their bishop and his very supportive coadjutor don’t begin to “smell like sheep,” to quote Francis.

  4. Tragically the sex abuse and cover up within the Catholic church hierarchy is still going on to this day. Cardinals and bishops are still not removing accused predator clerics, and they are still not reporting to law enforcement. Their so called “zero tolerance” policy is not being followed by the church officials who created it. They don’t have to, because there is no punishment to force them to change their ways. The words coming from Pope Francis are only PR tactics. He has yet to fire even one bishop for covering up these sex crimes against kids

Nothing has changed within this archaic secret system that protects one single child. Sex abuse thrives in secrecy and secret systems that allow it to continue to this day. It is time for law enforcement and governments throughout the world to take serious actions to hold the Vatican and high ranking church officials accountable for their crimes against humanity.
Silence and inaction are not an option anymore, it only hurts. By exposing the truth, this horrific systemic child sex abuse and cover up can get stopped.
Judy Jones, SNAP, the Survivors Network of those Abused by Priests

    • Judy,
I know a priest whose vocation is indeed dealing with these predators. He said something I will never forget: “We take young seminarians, at the height of their sexual awareness in a post-sexual revolution world, insist they be celibate, and put them around children. It is nothing less than a recipe for disaster and a blatant disregard for spiritual common sense.”

The abuse in religion has touched too long, too much, and too close for me, compelling me to write a book upon this with a co-writer. I suppose some might say it’s our Peter Finch moment, but silence has been the model gremlin for far too long.

      Blessings to you and SNAP.

      http://spirrealism.wordpress.com

    • Judy,

If governments and law enforcement don’t take action against them any time soon, there is comfort in knowing that “false religion” will eventually meet its fate or destruction by the God it falsely represents and for all of its disgraceful actions (Revelation 17 and 18). True justice will prevail! :-D

  5. We were created sexual beings… Eden was the relationship prototype… Because of our choice the snake perverted it all… celibacy – who is kidding who here? Man subjects himself to an out of balance religion and innocent people really believe these leaders are holy? And those that protect them? From the top down? “I never knew you”.

  6. Cardinal Pell was questioned at length by a Royal Commission. He has never been charged with abusing anyone, including minors. The anti-Catholic media tried very hard over the years to get him, but they failed. Furthermore, he condemns child abuse and, on several occasions, apologised to the victims for the harm caused by some evil individuals.

He is now being attacked for not giving more money to the victims of abuse. I believe that compensation was paid decades ago. The amounts were more that that paid by abusers outside the Church. My son was abused many years ago due to the irresponsible behaviour of government officers but there is nothing he can do about it. No one bothers about people like him and no compensation is available. Sadly, there are many tens of thousands like him in Australia and nobody seems to care. The only victims that get something are the ones abused by bad priests. Are the other victims unimportant?

  7. this ex catholic is not anti-catholic but anti-criminals.
nothing is going to change. There is zero evidence to support the notion. they just made the largest settlement ever of 20 mil and are pumping 40+ into the crystal chathederal. Not near enough of hardcore catholics are exiting just yet. they are walking towards the light.

  8. Mal,

Who set up this “unjust” system of law? Where did the influence of the feudal system in society come from? The Roman Church?
Have you read the “precepts” of the RC-its inception? (Dictatus papae: collection of 27 statements dealing with the Roman primacy)

By their fruits ye shall know them is often understood in the streambed that follows.

And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God. Romans 12.2

I see that you might ask yourself whether the RCC is a political campaign of man, posing as “Holy Advocates” … or of the Christ, NOT in compliance with worldly endeavor, and certainly not advertising itself as the RCC has throughout the world. The RCC wanted the spotlight; it is now feeling the heat.

    Serving two masters?

Mal, the Christ is not a Religion. It is a Place of Spirit Awareness, which calls the believer to a place of Spiritual Sense and Reason. Your Cardinal Pell lives in an insulated state of Spiritual Malnutrition. He suffers from a Poverty of Love. A Truth Shepherd does not set himself up in the manner of these men and speak with such callousness, distancing self from women, and children, and then writing in creeds and codes and swearing of oaths Religious Law as God’s Law (Read Agl. James)

What mind that lives in denial is of a wellness to shepherd any flock, especially where children are being raised?

    1 Corinthians 3.2
I gave you milk to drink, not solid food; for you were not able as yet. But neither indeed are you now able; for you are yet carnal.

Sexual abuse/abuse of anyone is a horror, and I am deeply sorry for your son’s pain, but what many fear, and call out as HYPOCRISY … is the RCC’s (and ALL Denominations claiming Christ) “positioning” as FATHER, and HOLY FATHER. The “power” … trust and ability these have by positioning self, or doctrine, as infallible, or Absolute Authority, or Law of God, or THE CHURCH … is in serious question here. Do not deceive yourself into thinking cradle religious have not been influenced, even seduced … and even today, what parent sends their children into the den of those claiming the ability to contain Spirit in a chalice through their own means, and to offer absolutions. This alone should be investigated by every and all governing factions to be sure it is not advising contrary to the safety of many. What PRODUCT does the RCC sell to the masses who make up a significant part of society … goes unquestioned by society? These are dangerous positions for any community, and one has the right to question the intent of these fraternal, celibate and secretive places.

    Peace and Love

    • opheliart, the Christ is a person, Jesus, the Son of the Father who assumed human nature to save us. It is clear that you have an erroneous view of the Church that Jesus established and also an extremely bigoted one.

      • Mal,

and please share on where in HOLY SCRIPTURE that Jesus tells “you” the ROMAN CATHOLIC Church is THE Church of Christ?

Drawer nearer to God … and HE WILL DRAW NEARER TO YOU :)

        Peace and Love

      • And Mal,

What is bigotry? An infraction of justice? In James it states:

        PARTIALITY IS A SIN.

And the ROMAN CATHOLIC Church is NOT partial?

And Peter opening his mouth, said: In very deed I perceive, that God is not a respecter of persons. Acts 10.4

Do really truly believe the pope is your Holy Father, and that the priests of this Institution called the Roman Catholic Church are Fathers of the Most High; the Almighty God? Including those who sexually abuse? How do you know one from the other if you are of partiality?

And call none your father upon earth; for one is your father, who is in heaven. Matthew 23.9

Take care that you do not throw out the baby with the bath water :)

        Peace and Love

You have been badly misled by your gurus.
I am sure you heard this before: Honour your father and your mother.
Yes, this does refer to our biological fathers. But, have you heard about our fathers in faith or spiritual leaders?

“ He received the sign of circumcision as a seal of the righteousness that he had by faith while he was still uncircumcised. The purpose was to make him the father of all who believe without being circumcised, so that righteousness would be counted to them as well” (Romans 4:11)

“In that day I will summon my servant, Eliakim son of Hilkiah. I will clothe him with your robe and fasten your sash around him and hand your authority over to him. He will be a father to those who live in Jerusalem and to the people of Judah. I will place on his shoulder the key to the house of David; what he opens no one can shut, and what he shuts no one can open. (Isaiah 22:20-22)

“I have written to you, fathers, because you know Him who has been from the beginning. I have written to you, young men, because you are strong, and the word of God abides in you, and you have overcome the evil one.” 1 John 2-14

“No greater joy can I have than this, to hear that my children follow the truth” 1 John 2:1

Jesus warns against individuals. the self-proclaimed masters, doctors or spiritual gurus.

          Peace and love

          • Mal says … You have been badly misled by your gurus.
I am sure you heard this before: Honour your father and your mother.
Yes, this does refer to our biological fathers. But, have you heard about our fathers in faith or spiritual leaders?

Only a Patriarchal Religion such as THE ROMAN CATHOLIC CHURCH would see it as you do, as it does not acknowledge the ENERGY AND ESSENCE of the Godhood.
But I must ask, Mal … why isn’t your Roman Catholic Church honoring mothers?

            Peace and Love

          • It is one thing to seek Wisdom, or Knowledge, quite another to blaspheme through “doctrinal” dissertation, for it is not doctrine that serves Truth, nor is Truth to serve doctrine. Doctrine accommodates man’s thoughts and words. Truth exists for God recognition.

            Peace and Love

      • Mal, God is spirit.
A priest I know told me: “The Church’s goal should be to make itself obsolete in the lives of its children, so they can find their own path.”
I agree with that, especially as a Catholic.
Now, I cannot subscribe to the notion that scripture is Holy. It is a collection of spiritual writings by God obsessed peoples. Like the Catholic Church, or churches in general, there is far too much immorality in scripture to “comfortably” call it Holy. We must discern in spirit and, yes, pick and choose what applies to our personal journey. That pick and choose applies to both scripture and church.
We should avoid mantling the idea that either scripture or church are dictates from “above,” from tradition, etc.
I must ask where did the Mosaic author get his commands? Likewise, I will ask where does the Roman Catholic Church get its commands?
Not from the Spirit of God. We cannot be silly about it. The Spirit of God would hardly advocate stoning someone to death for eating shellfish. Likewise, the spirit of God would hardly inspire bishop to refuse eucharist to an autistic teenager because that tend could not ‘get” the complexities of transubstantiation theology.
The greatest fallacy is that spirit must remain immobile. God changes and there is evidence of that aplenty within and outside of scripture.
The Church too can change. Revelation is forever unfolding. The sin is in rejecting that, in rejecting evolving, spiritual common sense.
The narratives of Christ and women are, for example, among the most startling in the gospels. Clearly, when Jesus of Nazareth walked this earth he did not subscribe to a solely patriarchal mindset or ideology. He included the maternal as well. That is one thing that set Jesus apart from the Hebrew testament, apart from Buddha, etc.
Sadly, the early church was quick to forget and jettison that spiritual personality,
When the hierarchy are quick to excommunicate nuns for advocating social reform over dogmatic bullet points, but are reluctant to excommunicate pedophile presets, something is monstrously wrong here and it is very apparent to almost everyone what that is.
        Best,
        Alfred

        • Whatever this ‘Catholic priest’ told you has nothing to do with Catholic beliefs and teachings. It simply reflects your persona views.

People who are deny or defy the teachings of Jesus incorporated in the Church excommunicate themselves. It is not right that nuns have been excommunicated by the authorities; their workings are being looked at just as it happens to other groups.

People are not excommunicated from the Church because of sins committed. Everybody sins. Sins can be forgiven. However, if someone chooses to follow strange teachings or gurus then they are not in communion with the Church. In other words their beliefs and committed lifestyles disassociate or excommunicates them.

  9. This is ripe, Mal! And you think this Scripture is referring to those OUTSIDE the temple—your SUPERIORS? Have you not read what is in Revelation? Chapter 11

… it has been given to the Gentiles. And they will tread the holy city underfoot for forty-two months. You think this holy city is your Vatican City? My-my …

Gurus? Have you ever read John Klimacus, Mal? Or The Philokalia?

You have not answered my question: Can you and your brethren tell the difference between a molesting priest and one who is not?

    Peace and Love

    • opheliart

I did not respond earlier because I live in a different time zone and did have other things to do. Sorry.

I must say that I totally disagree with your view that”the Christ is not a Religion. It is a Place of Spirit Awareness, which calls the believer to a place of Spiritual Sense and Reason.” My Jesus, the Christ, is a PERSON who said Follow ME, and established the eternal Church in which the reconciliation he achieved for us is always available.

I feel sorry for people who have been led to deny this PERSON and his Church. If you want to better understand Revelations then start by reading Hahn and Broussard and then move on to other great Catholic scholars of the Bible.

Bye. May the peace and love of Jesus, the Christ, be with you.

      • To Mal and his defensive Roman Catholics:

God is a SPIRIT; and they that adore (worship) him, must adore( worship) him in spirit and in truth.

In my Father’s house are many mansions: if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you.

ARE THESE NOT PLACES OF SPIRIT AWARENESS? Is Jesus mere “man” in your Roman Catholic Institution? Still think your “fathers” are the Christ, even those fooling you with their New Age Drama? The Vatican makes a lot of money off these, and I’ll bet you haven’t a clue who these are. I read their websites to see how they marry with the RCC Doctrine. You do not know half of what goes on in your Institution, and you have the audacity to call others in denial of Christ?

Explain to me what happened with the 300,000 babies SOLD in Spain (up through the 90s … SEE BBC Documentary-SPAINs: STOLEN BABIES). And your Institutional Head has the arrogance to tell the rest of the world it is a throwaway culture? These BABIES were taken from mothers in Catholic Hospitals operated by Catholic priests and nuns and Catholic doctors. They told the mothers that the babies had died, even taking a baby from a freezer and showing them a dead, frozen newborn when they asked to see the child. The offices of the RCC sold the babies to “good” Catholic families as part of the regime. Your “church” in business with the dictators?

Denial? Are you in denial of this crime against Humanity … as you are with what your Religious Leadership says on the clergy sex abuse? Tell me Mal and company, if your saint john paul the second knew nothing of these horrid crimes, and never knew of the criminal and illicit activity of his favored, Macial Maciel, how is it that you call him HOLY FATHER? If he were of SPIRIT Nature, would he not know of the abuse? Even Jesus knew of what His Disciples turned Apostles were into.

Your Leaders sainted him. Do you know the difference between God and man, Mal?

Do you militant RCs drinking the Doctrines of your Fate ever think that maybe you have been DUALLY deceived? Oh, but hey … there is always Purgatory, where all your sins get whisked away … Hate to break it to you, but God gives choice—always. Purgatory gives no choice, and please share … what good are you in the Gifts of the Spirit AFTER you pass the flesh? Spirit is filtered through HUMAN hands, Mal … Even Jesus demonstrated this epic Teaching.

        But I gotta ask …

Are your Leaders in cohabitation with the other militants of the world for policy agenda that serves their fatalistic dogma? That”brotherly love” going out to the world—you know, the FRATERNAL DIALOGUE the Vatican wishes to engage in with China, and hey, what about Cardinal Dolan telling the Muslim Brothers in NY that both the God of Islam and the God of Christianity are the same God. Do your homework, Mal.

        And speaking of brothers …

Tell me sirs, what would your church have done to dear Mary when they found out she was pregnant? Would you have had a Jesus to nail to a cross and feed on in your Transubstantiation Theory (which is soon to change!) if He were sold, or Mary had been put in a nun laundry, or a nun brothel where he might have ended up unbaptized and dumped in a mass grave with many unwed mothers? Hmm… something to think about away from the eyes of your Vatican ethics.

But you have not answered my question: Can you tell the difference between a molesting priest and one who is not?

If your institution were of the Gifts OF the Spirit (God … the Christ Way … I am the way, the Truth, and the Life … no one comes to the Father except through me) … your Seers “might” SEE what is of good and what is of evil, and be of the Work of the Spirit. But you don’t have any of these Gifts in your Institution at present, do you? No one of Spiritual Sense and Reason … why? Because you are listening to your superiors tell you that you are superior to all others, and you DENY all those sent in to CHECK THE VINEYARD. Tell me, are you militant RCs all taught to beat up those the Master sends to check the Vineyard—that he might SEE who destroys the good, feeds illicitly, denies and crucifies?

The children are the Martyrs, Mal.

Partiality is a sin … show no favoritism … You and your covert as I see you had “help” are especially good at spin doctoring. I studied their patterns all over the Amazon Christianity/Roman Church Discussion Forums. We wonder how many get paid by the RCC/Bishops for damage control, pushing political agenda … and “lovebombing”. Militant Religious are fine crafters when it comes to Religious Demography :)

*And you have not answered my question: Have you read John Klimacus or THE PHILOKALIA (Prayer of the Heart)?

Do not think that I came to send peace upon earth: I came not to send peace, but the sword.

The Church IS Peace, Mal … but one must first KNOW Love before he can Enter Peace … and the sword … Understood in the Language of the Spirit, is NOT violence (like the Inquisition), but rather, UNDERSTANDING: in casting out of the Temple those selling the Gifts of the Spirit for profit, and casting out those who deceive, deny, crucify and molest and abuse.

Man is in infancy in his understanding of God. It has nothing to do with feeling sorry, Mal and company, but has everything to do with LIVING WHAT YOU CLAIM AS TRUTH.

Do you and your superiors live what you claim as Truth?

        Peace and Love

  10. Deanna Johnston Clark

It is no longer shocking that this prince of the Church likens the church to a secular business.
The church has always held civil society to be inferior, sometimes bribing fire inspectors, building code officials as part of an old boys network. Others do that, too. But now here’s a Cardinal admitting he works for just another big business ready to hire great lawyers.
So what do we call priests now…Father or Manager? But parents won’t leave their kids alone with a manager they don’t know, will they?
If you hang out your shingle as a dentist or lawyer, you have a code, an objective standard. The priesthood needs that desperately.

  11. Deanna Johnston Clark

    Furthermore…in case anyone’s reading this!
A trucking company has expectations for employees, with the understanding that if they don’t move the stock, safely and on time, they will be fired.
A trucking company, like any firm, has OBJECTIVE standards for finances, taxes, safety, overhead. They are under the law and can get in big trouble.
So, it would be a big help if the church did those things, too. Pell’s wrong…the Catholic hierarchy doesn’t live up to the comparison with a trucking company!
But all over the world there are decent, prayerful Catholics who will never make headlines…They can stay.
