(UNDATED)”The Jesus I Never Knew”by Philip Yancey (Zondervan Publishing House) has won the Christian Book of the Year Award from the Evangelical Christian Publishers Association.

The fifth annual award, presented jointly with the Christian Booksellers Association, was given Saturday (July 13) to Yancey, a best-selling author and editor-at-large for Christianity Today magazine.


The Christian Book of the Year Award honors a book for having the most significant effect during the preceding calendar year.

In addition to the book of the year, 22 Gold Medallion Book Awards were presented by the publishers’ association.

Winners of the Gold Medallion Book Awards include Frank Peretti in the fiction category for”The Oath”(Word Publishing) and Franklin Graham in the biography/autobiography category for”Rebel With a Cause”(Thomas Nelson Publishers).

Yancey, who has won eight Gold Medallion Awards since 1978, was also honored this year in the inspirational category for”Finding God in Unexpected Places”(Moorings).

The Gold Medallion Book Awards were presented at a banquet of the publishers’ association on the eve of the Christian Booksellers Association international convention in Anaheim, Calif., which ends Thursday (July 18).

They were chosen by a panel of more than 200 judges _ mostly Christian retailers _ from 440 entries submitted by publishers.
