Here’s a time line of the growth of the movement:

1991: 4,200 at the University of Colorado

1992: 22,000 at the University of Colorado

1993: 50,000 at the University of Colorado

1994: 278,600 at seven stadiums nationwide

1995: 727,342 at 13 stadiums nationwide

1996: 1.1 million at 22 stadiums nationwide

1997: 613,379 at 17 conferences nationwide (as of 8/97)

Revenue over the last four years:

1993: $4 million

1994: $26 million

1995: $64 million

1996: $87 million

Estimated cost for Stand in the Gap: About $10 million

A survey distributed at 10 Promise Keepers stadium events in 1997 revealed the following about respondents:

Average age: 40

Attend church at least eight times a month: 42 percent

Attend church more than 4 times a month: 29 percent

Married, never divorced: 67 percent

Remarried: 14 percent

Single/never married: 13 percent

Divorced or widowed: 6 percent

Have children: 58 percent

Race: 86 percent white; 14 percent nonwhite

Median household income: $48,000
