The Vatican announced that it’s going digital for World Youth Day in Sidney, Australia this July. Pope Benedict XVI will be sending out daily text messages, organizers are building a “digital prayer wall” (whatever that is) and the church will set up a networking site, a la Facebook.

“We wanted to make WYD08 a unique experience by using new ways to connect with today’s tech-savvy youth,” Bishop Anthony Fisher said in a statement on Wednesday. 225,000 young Catholics are expected to turn out for the six-day event, which begins July 15.
