VATICAN CITY-When the bishops of the worldwide Anglican Communion meet for the first time in a decade in England this month, they will be joined by two high-ranking members of the Catholic Church. The presence of two cardinals underscores Rome’s dedication to an ecumenical dialogue with Anglicans that started more than four decades ago with the aim of restoring “full visible unity” between the two churches. But this year’s Lambeth Conference takes place amid intense intra-Anglican turmoil, largely over issues of gender and sexuality, that is complicating ecumenical dialogue with the Catholic Church-even as it encourages some Anglicans to go over to Rome.
