The U.S. Catholic Bishops’ on-again, off-again public discussion of abortion and national politics is on again as of Saturday, according to National Catholic Reporter’s John Allen.

As we reported Friday, the discussion had been taken off the table.

“By mid-day Saturday, however,” according to NCR “it became clear that taking the issue off the table wasn’t going to work, as a growing number of bishops who were arriving in Baltimore pressed for a discussion. One prominent bishop, for example, told a reporter on background that it would be “cowardice” if the conference didn’t tackle abortion
