As the Modesto Bee reported last week, a California Catholic priest told parishioners that voted for Obama to visit the confessional before receiving Communion.

The Rev. Joseph Illo of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Modesto follows the Rev. Jay Scott Newman of South Carolina in telling Catholics for Obama where to go. Newman’s boss publicly reprimanded the priest, telling the world in a statement Newman was way off base.

Now Illo is claiming he never told Catholics who voted for Obama to go to confession, according to this Modesto Bee follow up.

Except, of course, he did. Here’s the quote from his letter to parishioners: “If you are one of the 54 percent of Catholics who voted for a pro-abortion candidate, you were clear on his position, and you knew the gravity of the question, I urge you to go to confession before receiving communion.”
