The Church of England has a new Web site devoted to the “forgotten” work of Charles Darwin and his parish in Downe, Kent in Southeast England.

The page admits that Darwin, who trained to be an Anglican cleric, lost his Christian faith, but says he did not become anti-religious. At least publicly.

The 200th anniversary of Darwin’s birth is Thursday. Many churches are celebrating. Many others are not.
