HBO’s decision to air an episode of “Big Love” that shows a secret Mormon ritual may expose the network’s own dirty little secret: an anti-Mormon bias, says Beliefnet blogger Dave Banack, who is Mormon.

The Church of Latter Day Saints is less than thrilled that one of their sacred ceremonies is being shown to the public, albeit on a fictional TV show. This Sunday’s (March 15) episode features a sacred Mormon ceremony.

LDS leaders say the episode says “much more about the insensitivities of writers, producers and TV executives than they say about Latter-day Saints.”

Banack agrees. He says that though HBO has apologized, they’re still airing the episode. He also see dark designs in the fact that an ex-Mormon supervised the controversial scene, the brains behind the polygamy show are gay, and that Tom Hanks, one of the show’s producers, has criticized Mormons for working to ban gay marriage.
