UNITY VILLAGE, Mo. — Thousands of people will join Silent Unity—an international, multidenominational 24/7 prayer ministry—and Unity churches and centers around the world on Thursday, for the 21st annual Unity World Day of Prayer.

The theme of the 24-hour prayer event is, “We Are the Light of the World: Let Your Light Shine!”

The 24-hour prayer vigil will begin Wednesday, at 7 p.m. and continue through Thursday, September 11.

“Unity teaches that prayer is a powerful tool for transformation. Through it we can foster peace and wholeness in our individual lives, our communities and our world,” said Dr. Charlotte Shelton, president and CEO of Unity World Headquarters.

“The theme, ‘We Are the Light of the World: Let Your Light Shine!’ will be visibly expressed at Unity Village,” said Rev. Lynne Brown, vice president of Silent Unity.  “The 24-hour prayer vigil traditionally begins with a candlelight walk across our central courtyard. This year, for the first time, we will symbolize the power of united prayer by asking people everywhere to light a virtual candle at our website, www.worlddayofprayer.org.”

The virtual candles are displayed as points of light on a global map. As in previous years, names to be held in prayer can also be submitted to www.worlddayofprayer.org.

Events at Unity Village will include:

  • Opening keynote by best-selling author and poet Mark Nepo Wednesday, at 7 p.m., at the Activities Center, followed by candlelight walk to the Silent Unity Chapel.
  • “Pancakes and Prayer” breakfast Thursday, at 8 a.m., at the Unity Banquet and Dining facility.
  • Closing performance by singer/songwriter Karl Anthony Thursday, at 7 p.m., at the Activities Center.

All activities are free and open to the public. Live stream coverage of selected events will be available at www.worlddayofprayer.org.
