Turkey’s Refugees – Rising violence by ISIS and the ongoing civil war in Syria have generated what the United Nation’s calls the “worst refugee crisis since World War Two.” Nearly 1.6 million refugees have fled to Turkey. Managing editor Kim Lawton traveled to Istanbul and to Kilis, on the border between Turkey and Syria, for our special report about the challenges facing the refugees and how people of faith are trying to help them.

Picturing Mary — A new exhibit at the National Museum of Women in the Arts in Washington, DC, examines images of Mary by Renaissance and Baroque artists—some exhibited for the first time in the United States. Marian scholar Monsignor Timothy Verdon, director of tbe Museo dell’Opera del Duomo and Canon of the Florence Cathedral, describes the spiritual and theological significance of some of the works.

Handel’s Messiah Sing-Along – Composed in 1741, the oratorio is one of the most revered and frequently performed pieces of Christmas music, both for professional musicians and congregations.  We visited Northern Virginia’s Fairlington United Methodist Church where the community joins the choir each Advent for a Messiah Sing-Along.  One of the participants, Kenneth Chadwick, spoke with us about the importance of the Messiah in his Advent observance.
